RHA New Year’s Parliamentary Reception

Brit European were proud to attend The Road Haulage Association’s (RHA) New Year’s Parliamentary Reception, which was held on Wednesday the 10th of January at the Palace of Westminster.

At the reception there was the opportunity to meet industry experts, MP’s and industry colleagues to discuss the challenges that businesses like ours face.

The road haulage industry is critical to the UK’s supply chain and economic growth, contributing £13.6bn to the UK economy each year.

Despite the critical nature of the sector, we are facing a multitude of challenges relating to

  • the transition to net zero
  • inadequate infrastructure
  • major skills gap
  • unsustainable cost increases

All of which threaten future growth.

Our Group Sales Director, Rob McNinch was in attendance on behalf of the Brit European Transport group of companies, and met up with Fiona Bruce MP to discuss some of the challenges we face – as well as the opportunities coming up in the coming year, such as:

  • a potential visit to the Vita Nova Centre from Nusrat Ghani, the Minister of State at the Department for Business and Trade and the Minister of State responsible for the Investment Security Unit at the Cabinet Office
  • a celebration of our 100th birthday coming up later in the year (watch this space!)

Officially launched in June 2023, our new Operations Centre the Vita Nova Centre in Middlewich boasts ground breaking technology and levels of environmental sustainability that have already been discussed in Parliament as a blueprint for how such projects can take place in the future.

The Centre was designed with two major environmental objectives at its core. The first aim was to be carbon neutral in its build and operation – the second for it to be completely off grid.  The success of the project once again proves how the Brit European Transport group is driving the conversation when facing the challenges of a changing world.

In September our CEO, Graham Lackey gave a speech outlining the journey to our new home, to 650 Road Haulage Association members in Birmingham at their annual conference, and in the spring, he will be giving a speech on the same topic to the Microlise Transport event which is the largest of its kind in Europe with some 1400 delegates.
